Abstract

The objective of this study was to identify the factors determining entrepreneurial intention among residents of the city of Puyo, Ecuador. A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional approach was employed, using surveys administered to a sample of 374 individuals from the economically active population. Econometric models such as Probit and Logit were used to analyze data and evaluate the relationship between entrepreneurial intention and variables including self-efficacy, attitude, subjective norm, and sociodemographic factors. The results showed a high level of entrepreneurial intention, primarily among young people with middle and higher levels of education. Self-efficacy and attitude toward entrepreneurship were the most significant factors, as they increase confidence and a positive view of business creation. In contrast, variables such as subjective norms, age, educational level, and number of children were not statistically significant. It is concluded that policies to promote entrepreneurship in Puyo should focus primarily on strengthening personal capacities, confidence, and entrepreneurial skills, rather than on contextual or sociodemographic factors.
